Growing up I was always extremely athletic, playing soccer and tennis throughout high school. I saved up to buy my first bike and soon after I was almost never without it. After entering college I began running and weight training. I spent the next two years reading books on weight training and nutrition as well as keeping food and training logs that tracked my performance. Also during this period, I worked at a nutrition store recommending supplements and answering questions from customers. This helped me gain significant knowledge on supplements as well as real world nutrition knowledge from customers. I happened to catch a triathlon on television one day and could not stop thinking about how I would love to try one. During the summer of 1997 I found a triathlon in my area and signed up, after I crossed the finish line I knew I was hooked. Following that, I began to refocus my energy on one sport; triathlon. In 2000 at a body weight of approximately 190lbs I completed what I call my first real triathlon season as well as my first half ironman in a time of 6:05. Since then I have kept extremely detailed records on every training plan and workout that I complete. Using these records, I developed detailed training and nutrition protocols that work. These protocols have been developed over years of trial and error and sport research. These are the same protocols that have now produced Ironman Champions and countless Kona qualifiers. My own improvements are presented below:

Based on these protocols, in 2005 I began creating QT2 Systems as a coaching outlet to those who have already gained the performance they can on their own, and are looking to make a performance jump as they did when they began the sport. My vision was to have a squad of coaches that were equally trained in the QT2 protocol of coaching as well as committed to detail. As I once heard; "if your coach can't tell you why you are doing a particular workout, get a new coach".
What separates my coaching from many others is equal attention to nutrition and body composition as well as the training protocol. My training approach and that learned by the other QT2 coaches is very detail oriented giving consideration to all aspects of training, racing, and nutrition. My one-on-one coaching services are for 100% committed athletes that have significant potential or are currently racing at the professional level. If you feel you fit this description, I encourage you to submit an application.
My nutrition and/or training service clients have or currently do include the following pro level athletes over the past 3 years: Cait Snow (training/nutrition), Dede Griesbauer (training/nutrition), Tim Snow (training/nutrition), Ethan Brown (training/nutrition), Kim Loeffler (nutrition), John Hirsch (nutrition), Tony Delonge (nutrition), Dean Phillips (nutrition), Carmen Monks (nutrition), and Molly Zahr (training/nutrition).
Currently I race with our QT2 Elite triathlon team and have completed over 130 triathlons since 2000. I live and train in Boston where I work as a structural engineer when I am not coaching. |
