Ironman Lake Placid 2012 - QT2 Athletes Dominate the Field!

July 26, 2012

The mentality all QT2 Systems athletes have when going into an Ironman race is that they are going to perform at their very best leaving everything out there on the course with perfect execution. Whether it's one of our professional athletes or age-groupers; we train to race! Our planning is so meticulous that when race day arrives we know that we've done everything possible to give us the best chance to succeed.

Having said that, this past Sunday's performance by QT2 athletes at the fourteenth annual Ironman Lake Placid were unheard of! The top 3 female pro's were QT2 coached women! Seven athletes, male and female in the overall top ten. Eight age-group athletes in the top ten of their respective divisions! Seven athletes finished in under ten hours, eight athletes finished in under eleven hours and five athletes finished in under twelve hours!

QT2 athlete and PRO Jessie Donavan earned her first professional Ironman victory having the fastest bike and 2nd fastest run split of the day for professional woman (5:19:40 and 3:13:39). Jennie Hansen in her first professional Ironman came from last after the swim to having the fastest marathon time for all women in 3:12:25 and the 2nd fastest bike split for all women. Professional Jacqui Gordon had the third fastest marathon time of the day in 3:28:46 helping her to take third overall for the pro women.

Five of the thirty-four age-group athletes raced in their first Ironman. Seven had run-splits in the top ten of their respective division with six of those being in the top 5! Yes, we train our athletes to execute, and run fast marathons off the bike!

Two more punched their tickets to the World Championships in Kona this coming October; Vinny Johnson (M35-39) and Dave Wilson (M65-69).

As always, thanks again to all of our sponsors who continue to help us succeed in all aspects of the sport; a special thanks again to Kestrel for sponsoring the pre-race carbo-load breakfast on Saturday morning. Also thanks to: Normatec MVP, Pearl Izumi, Blue Seventy, Powerbar, FastSplits Multisport, Native Eyewear, Nuun, AllstarHealth.com, Saltstick.com, Dr.SearsZone, and Be Well Boston!

Once again QT2 athletes had to battle some very challenging conditions with full sun and temperatures in the upper 80's with a heat index in the 90's. This alone makes the day's results that much more impressive. Next Stop: USAT Nationals on August 18th, 2012 and Ironman Mont Tremblant on August 19th, 2012. See you then!
