Training for, and racing long distance triathlon puts a great deal of stress on the body. Typically, when this stress is applied on a gradual basis, the body is able to adapt to it, and grow stronger as a result. But, when stress is applied too quickly, sometimes the body reacts negatively to it, and breaks down in injury. If managed correctly, these injuries do not have to derail an entire season, and can actually sometimes be a blessing in disguise.
