Questions for Ryan

How long have you been racing?

This is my 5th year racing.

What are your goals for this season?

My goal for this season is to put up a solid day in Kona and at 70.3 Wolds in St. George.

Long Term?

I want to continue to compete and help ALL of my teammates improve.

What is your favorite workout?

Long Bike/Runs mixed with variations of lifting, pushing the 1 man sled, 5 man sled, and running with heavy rocks.

What brought you to triathlon?

My dad was a High School coach and teacher for 50 years. I grew up playing football, baseball, wrestling, hockey and karate.  I’ve always loved running, working out, and lifting. I played baseball through college, then began to train/compete in triathlon.

What did you do in 2020 to keep you motivated?

Well we were going through a pandemic. My last race pre-pandemic was IM Louisville 2019 and I didn’t race again until IM 70.3 Hawaii 2021. During that time I just tried to find ways to stay away from cars while on the bike. I stayed on the dirt roads, 4 wheeler paths, nearly empty parking lots, down by the river, and in the grass. I read while on the bike and listened to music and audiobooks. I also lifted during long rides. I made sure each workout had a challenge/obstacles and didn’t worry so much about the numbers, just the effort. I looked at it as going out and having fun/pushing the pace hard when instructed.

When did you begin with QT2?

2019

Why did you decide to train with QT2?

I have followed QT2 Systems since beginning to compete and was very fortunate to start working with all the great people involved with the organization.

Who is your coach?

Anne Basso

What do you like best about working with your coach?

When I email my coach, she gives helpful feedback, not only about racing and training, but everything else it takes to keep a healthy life, work, and family balance.
