QT2 Systems Athletes Kick off the 2014 Season at Texas 70.3!

April 12, 2014

The Memorial Hermann Ironman 70.3 Texas is historically one of the early season tests for QT2 athletes who have spent the previous five months enduring hours and many miles on their indoor trainers. This year was no different!

The weekend began on Saturday, courtesy of our partner Blue Seventy, with the big Carbo-load breakfast.

Nearly 30 QT2 athletes lined up for the start of the April 6th race. Unlike previous years, the conditions on race day were practically ideal. Cool and overcast skies, combined with significant winds, made for a less than ideal first leg of the swim but an extremely fast bike segment. By the time the athletes hit T2, heading out onto to the run, the only thing standing in their way was a bit of humidity.  But, even that wasn’t enough. In addition, we once again debuted our brand new race kits for 2014 courtesy of Pearl Izumi!

QT2 saw some amazing early-season results, including a number of overall age-group awards. QT2 athlete, and pro Kaitlin Anelauskas made her professional debut finishing in 5th with a time of 4:21:25, among a very strong field of pro women.

Overall the women had three top-ten age-group finishes that included one overall category win, from Carly Cooper Johnson (1st F35-39), as well as a fourth place finish, from Caitlin Glenn (4th F25-29)!  One the men's side, QT2 had two overall category wins; Rich Burke winning the M45-49 in 4:06:18, and Alex Begg winning the M50-54 category in 4:14:03 (1st Swim, 1st Bike, 1st Run). As a whole there were 11 PR’s, on the day. One athlete finished in under 4:00, 13 athletes finished in under 5:00, and six finished in under 6:00.

The 2014 edition of the Ironman 70.3 Galveston served as a perfect opportunity to unveil the team's brand new uniform design, courtesy of  Pearl Izumi!
