QT2 Systems Scorches Ironman Arizona!

November 21, 2012

Racing a late season Ironman is never "easy." Not that racing an Ironman is ever easy, however, generally speaking the later the race is during the calendar year, the more difficult it becomes to prepare for, mentally.

For the majority of the triathlon world, once daylight savings time occurs, thoughts turn toward the off-season and preparing for a new year. For those athletes who still have an Ironman on the schedule, having to remain focused on the task at hand usually requires a bit more concentration and dedication. So, although mental toughness is always a large component of Ironman racing, it becomes even more important as the days grow shorter.

QT2 athlete and coach Patrick Wheeler crossed the finish line as the 2nd overall amateur, a mere 5:13 off of the overall amateur win, and good enough for a 15 minute PR at the distance, 8:55:34.

For QT2 Systems 1st year PRO Kim Schwabenbauer, Sunday's Ironman Arizona was a breakthrough performance. Finishing 10th overall in 9:30:54 was a tremendous way to end the season giving herself a nice PR in the process.

Age grouper Rodney Scott unexpectedly developed a case of shin splints in his right leg, just two weeks prior to the race. In just his second Ironman he remained focused throughout the race and despite the pain finished in 9:40:33 good for a 49 minute PR. Jason Sipple followed suit besting his previous Ironman performance with a 67 minute PR in 12:08:46.

In all, eight QT2 athletes raced on Sunday and are now looking forward to the holidays and off-season.
